Genre Lessons

posted Sep 9, 2015, 10:11 AM by Shasteen Murphy   [ updated Jan 20, 2016, 2:20 PM ]

This week, third through sixth grade students are learning about the various literary genres, adventure, fantasy, historical, humor, mystery, realistic, science fiction and traditional.

This library is shelved by the various genres so it's an important lesson for finding books on the shelves as well.

Kindergarten through second grade students are learning about book care with a visit from the book doctor.

Book Suit

posted Sep 16, 2014, 2:25 PM by Shasteen Murphy

Every year, kindergarten through second grade students learn about the parts of a book, using the book suit. I choose one student to demonstrate the lesson while I go over the title, front cover, back cover, author and illustrator, etc. It's always a hit with the students as I turn the fabric pages and read the book. This year, Natalie G. was my helper. Thanks, Natalie.
